We are well aware that there are lots of people out there who say they can restore an Aston Martin. However, there are very few that can do the job really, really well. All our restoration work is fully documented and photographed, enabling our customers to see each and every stage the car undergoes.

Engine builds
Our engine builders have spent their entire careers working on Aston Martins, rebuilding and upgrading engines for both road and race cars to get the best levels of performance and reliability. Some clients choose to keep their cars completely original – but for others we can incorporate enhancements that modern metallurgy and engineering allows. Our experience across the full range of models – from the classic DB2 through to V8s and the Virage - is unparalleled, and the reason Aston Martin owners from across the world choose Desmond J Smail for their engine builds.

Upholstery workshops
Headed up by Joe Dorrill, who has been trimming Aston Martins since 1960, our upholstery workshop is where we put the final seal of perfection on all our cars. Cutting, shaping, hand-sewing and fitting bring an interior back to concours condition and we use hide in heritage colours and grading as well as specialising in returning original upholstery to life with careful leather feeding.

Among the cars our craftsmen have trimmed is the James Bond Goldfinger DB5 and the royal wedding DB6.

Chassis and body work
Our specialist chassis restorers and coachbuilders have an excellent reputation for the restoration of hand-built classics and effecting repairs to modern Aston Martins. As with the rest of our business, our standards in this field are exacting – doors that fit ‘just so’, delicate shapes in aluminium that we would recognise as being wrong, even if no one else could. If the results aren’t perfect, the job isn’t finished.

Painting
Aston Martin have always prided themselves on being the best when it comes to paint and the finish on an Aston Martin is as important to our customers as the engine. In our paint and body centre we only use Aston Martin recommended paint to transform the prefit bodies with the highest finish – ensuring it’s as good, if not better than when the car was brand new.
