The DB5 was essentially the next generation of the very successful DB4 but with so many improvements it was launched as a new model. The same 6 cylinder Tadek Marek engine was increased to 4.0 litres with a resultant power improvement of 40hp to 280 bhp. A new 5 speed gearbox and much improved braking enhanced the cars driveability and along with many other refinements made this a superb sports car at the time.
Introduced in the summer of 1963, only 886 saloon cars and a mere 123 convertibles were built until October 1965, when production was given over to the DB6.
The Vantage engine option was introduced in 1964 and consisted of revised cam profiles and triple Weber carburettors to enhance the power output to 315 bhp. Only 65 cars were built to Vantage specification.
This car left the factory in November 1964 in Pale Primrose and Black Connolly to it's original UK owner. Subsequently exported to France in the early eighties where it has remained with the same French owner since. Although thoughtfully maintained throughout its life the car is now in need of some substantial restoration.
