The DB5 was essentially the next generation of the very successful DB4 with many improvements particularly in power, with the new 4.0 litre version of the Tadek Marek 6 cyl engine developing 280 bhp in standard form or 310 bhp in Vantage.
A new 5 speed gearbox and much improved brakes along with many other refinements made this a superb sports car at the time.
Introduced in the summer of 1963, only 898 saloon cars and a mere 123 convertibles were built until October 1965, when production was given over to the DB6.
The DB5 remains one of the most Iconic sports cars of all time!
This DB5 was first registered in February 1964 in its original Sierra Blue with Fawn hide, chrome road wheels and heated rear screen. With a blank build sheet and Newport Pagnell registration, that it still retains today, it is unclear who its first owner was, possibly a factory car? DVLA records show that it came in the hands of a Mr Batt from Caerphilly by 1977 and shortly after sold to Mr Tomlinson of Cardiff in 1978. This second recorded owner kept the car for 22 years during which time its colour changed to Fiesta Red, before being discovered by Desmond in 2000 in a very poor state. The car was sold to its third keeper in 2001and a year later he started a long, painstaking and complete ground up restoration, carried out by and with the guidance of, Desmond J Smail Ltd.
The result is the beautiful car you see today, completed in 2011 it has remained in conditioned storage since and is offered in perfect condition.
