The DB5 was essentially the next generation of the very successful DB4 with many improvements particularly in power, with the new 4.0 litre version of the Tadek Marek 6 cyl engine developing 280 bhp in standard form or 310 bhp in Vantage.
A new 5 speed gearbox and much improved brakes along with many other refinements made this a superb sports car at the time.
Introduced in the summer of 1963, only 898 saloon cars and a mere 123 convertibles were built until October 1965, when production was given over to the DB6.
The DB5 remains one of the most Iconic sports cars of all time!
This DB5 was registered on 31st May 1965 to Star Associated Holdings Ltd from Leeds, a cinema and entertainments venue company that flourished in the 50’s and 60’s.
After Star, and two subsequent short term owners, the car came in to the hands of Mr Swift in 1979 who purchased it while working in Saudi Arabia. The DB5 remained in storage until his return to the UK in 1985 when he undertook a full restoration to original specification and colour, completing the work in 1987.
The car had very little use before he decided on a full engine re-build in 1996 and by the time he decided to sell the car in 2003 he had covered less than 1,000 miles!
This last keeper change has seen the car continuously maintained and meticulously cared for by its enthusiastic owner, even though it has only covered a further 3,000 miles!
