Introduced in 1993 as a replacement to the Virage, the new Aston Martin Vantage had the benefit of new Ford funding and R&D to make significant changes to performance and driveability. The V8 engine was further developed with the addition of two superchargers and the latest engine management systems to give it an impressive output of 550bhp, 0-60 in 4.5 secs and 190mph top speed! Making it one of the fastest road cars in the world! Although the new car had the same wheelbase as the Virage the chassis was extensively lightened and significantly re-designed at the rear to vastly improve the cars handling. The new Vantage also benefitted from a new body design to give it a fresher and more purposeful stance and of course being an Aston Martin, new levels of interior comfort were also attained!
These enormously impressive cars are very rare with only 236 examples ever made and not surprisingly they have become very collectable as significant models in the Aston Martin range.
This V550 was originally registered in September 1994 in its original colour of Snowdon White to first owner Adam Clayton, bass guitarist of Irish rock band U2. Clayton kept the car for seven years using it mainly at his house in France but keeping it maintained in the UK by our very own Ian Mason. The car had only completed 4,000 miles when he parted company with it in November 2001, when it came into the hands of John Keevill of Tower Leasing, an equipment leasing company. Although he only owned the car for two short years Mr Keevill did in that time have the car re-painted in his preferred Buckingham Green by Aston Martin Works Service. In March 2004 it became the property of Mr Simpson a country house estate and holiday park owner from Devon at which point it had completed a mere 10,000 miles. Mr Simpson kept the car for nearly twelve years having it regularly maintained by Aston Martin Works, Grange Aston Martin, local specialists and latterly Wren Classics. The last recorded keeper acquired this Vantage V550 in August 2016 at 22,000 miles and has covered less than 200 miles since purchase.
This very rare and sought after supercar is offered in superb condition and comes with a comprehensive ownership and maintenance history.
