Launched in 2008 the Vantage GT2 was designed to meet FIA and ACO GT2 class regulations with eligibility for the FIA GT Championships, and the European and American Le Mans Series.
At the heart of the Vantage GT2 is the critically acclaimed Aston Martin V8 Vantage road car launched in 2005.
The Vantage GT2’s engine is based on the standard 4.3 litre Aston Martin V8, retaining the road car’s block, heads and crankshaft, but using competition components, including cylinder heads, connecting rods, valves, camshafts and a racing exhaust system. The engine capacity is increased to 4.5 litres and uses a dry sump lubrication system allowing it to be positioned low in the chassis ensuring an optimised centre of gravity.
Like the road car the gearbox is mid-rear mounted but with a six speed sequential transmission with ‘flat shift’ and competition clutch.
The bonded aluminium structure is also taken directly from the road car but with the addition of an aerospace specification steel roll cage built to FIA standards.
With the exception of the roof the bodywork is manufactured entirely from lightweight carbon fibre and features an advanced aerodynamic package including, splitter, flat floor, diffuser, and rear wing.
The suspension is also largely retained from the road car but with bespoke double wishbones and coil springs over adjustable dampers with Brembo six piston racing brakes front and rear.
All Aston Martin Vantage GT2 cars were built to order for their specific customers and only 10 cars have ever been produced.
This car, chassis number GT2/003, was ordered by its current and only owner in April 2008 in order to compete at the Nurburgring in August that year. However due to minor technical issues its first and only race came at the Silverstone 1000kms in September where it was driven by Tim Sugden in its first and last outing. The car both started and finished the race with a creditable 6th place in class.
Fully prepared post race for the forthcoming 2009 series the car was placed in conditioned and maintained storage where it has remained since.
Having had such little use this car represents a rare opportunity for a variety of uses.
